Illness Fatal To Lester Cross, 52

Lester O. Cross, 52, 111 ½ N. Court St., died at 4:25 a.m. today at the Jefferson Country hospital. He underwent surgery at University hospital, Iowa City, Sept. 28 and was transferred to the local hospital last Wednesday.

Last rites will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Weston Behner Funeral home in charge of the Rev. H.T. *[This name is unreadable.] Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Cross had been employed by the Cook Transfer Co. for 12 years. He was born May 2, 1904 in Van Buren county, the son of Bert and Cora Martin Cross. He was a member of the First Baptist church and the Eagles lodge. He was married to Irene E. Curl Aug. 6, 1927.

Surviving are his wife and mother, both of Fairfield; and the following children: Robert Cross and Mrs. Marjorie Nelson, Fairfield; Leo Cross, Keokuk; and Mrs. Eleanor Lapora, Sioux City. A stepson, Donald Finger, Davenport; 12 grandchildren, a brother, Walter Cross, and a sister, Mrs. Mildred Brown, both of Fairfield, also survive.

His father preceded him in death Sept. 10.
