Deceased.
**Handwritten: great grandmother

Mrs. Mary Norris Slaughter was born in Ohio, August 16th, 1810. In 1829 she was married to Samuel Slaughter. Nine years later they moved to Iowa and located in Lee county. She had reached the ripe old age of 88 years, 4 months and 4 days, when on the 20th of December 1898 she passed away on the 17th anniversary of her husband's death. She was the mother of ten children, two of whom, Mrs. Martha Kelley and Mrs. Clark Knapp, preceded her to the world beyond. The others are Mrs. Samuel Johnson of Ohio, Mrs. James Knapp of Allerton, Iowa, Mrs. Jas. Smith of Unionville, Mo., Mrs. L. Merrick and Mrs. Madison Burrier of Farmington, Ia., Miss Abigail Slaughter (who has faithfully cared for her mother during her enfeebled heath and declining years), James Slaughter of Primrose, and Oren Slaughter of Queen City, Mo.

Mrs. Slaughter had been a member of the Baptist church since 1862 and departed this life in hope of the resurrection of life, and honored by all. The worn body was laid to rest in the McDaniel cemetery.
