ROBERT WM. STANSBURY

Robert William Stansbury, the youngest son of Daniel and Phoebe Stansbury, was born near Big Mound, Lee County, Iowa, July 10, 1876. He departed this life in Farmington, Sept. 22, 1947, at the age of 71 years, 2 months and 12 days.

His early education was in the Benton school, and later he attended the Primrose schools, from which he graduated.

On Dec. 25, 1899, he was united in marriage to Bertha Julia Risser. Five children were born to this union to bless their home. From 1899 to 1907 they were at home on the farm east of Farmington, in Lee County.

In 1905, Mrs. Stansbury became a Rural Mail Carrier, and about two years late the family moved from the farm home to their new home in Farmington, and he had resided here since. He continued his work as Rural Mail Carrier until he retired in 1941 because of failing health. He was determined and persistent in his work even in the face of many handicaps, which dates back into the horse and buggy days. He was a member of the National Letter Carriers Association.

He leaves to remember his many good qualities his five children: Robert W. Stansbury, Jr., and Mrs. Vera Evans of Farmington, Iowa; Reuel R. Stansbury of Washington, D.C.; Mrs. Marjorie Paine of Eagle Grove, Iowa; and Mrs. Thelma Jacobson of Junction City, Kansas; 16 grandchildren, and one greeat grandchild. He also leaves on sister, Mrs. Jennie Cochren of Fort Madison, Iowa, two half sisters, Mrs. Alice Randolph, Salem, Iowa and Mrs. Dora Coff of Sioux, Iowa and one half brother Charles M. Stansbury of McPherson, Kansas.

Funeral services were held Thursday Sept. 25, at 2:30 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Farmington, the pastor, Rev. Henry Olsen conducting the services. Burial was in the Farmington cemetery.

Rural Carriers attending the funeral were, 12 regular, and 4 retired, from Van Buren, Lee and Henry Counties. Also 9 ladies of the Auxiliary.
