BYRON M. ZANE

Byron Marchand Zane, son of James L. and Mary Lee Zane. Was born March 2, 1895, at Farmington, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. He departed this life at the Veterans hospital in Des Moines Friday, August 15, 1947.

He answered the call to his country’s need enlisting in the Navy February 1, 1918 as machinists mate and received his honorable discharge from the U. S. Naval Station at Pensacola, Florida, March 22, 1919.

He was married twice, and when the need arose took his sister’s children into his home caring for them to the best of his ability.

Bonnie was always glad to be of service to his fellowmen. He preferred to keep on being useful as long as he was able. He always acted in the spirit of humility. He was particularly talented in music and was violinist for worship services for some period of time. He joined the Methodist church at the age of 15.

He leaves two sisters, Mrs. Charles Phillips of Farmington and Mrs. Herbert Haffner of Wapello, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; and many other relations and friends. His parents, two sisters and one brother preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Monday afternoon, August 18, conducted by the Rev. John McCallum. Interment was at the McDaniel cemetery with military honors.
