Harry Rees

William Henry Harrison Rees, better known to his many friends as Harry or “Cute” Rees, was the second son of Richard and Carrie Erdman Rees. He was born in Bonaparte, Iowa, Nov. 15, 1876; and passed from this life suddenly and without warning as he walked up the street of his home town about ten o’clock Thursday morning, Feb. 1, 1951. He had reached the age of seventy-four years and two and a half months.

Harry lived his entire life in Bonaparte, attended the public school, quitting to go to work with his father and brother in the Rees wagon and buggy factory, there learning and practicing the trade of painter.

Several years after his father’s tragic death in 1901, the factory was closed. Harry continued to ply his trade of painter, paper hanger and interior decorator, helping at one time or another to beautify the dwellings of the majority of the houses in the town. The redecorating of the interior of the church where his funeral was held was done by him and his brother.

June 4, 1898, he was united in marriage with Miss Nannie B. Entler, also a resident of Bonaparte. Two sons were born to this union, Richard and Edwin. The wife and mother died July 31, 1939.

The sole survivors of his immediate family are the two boys; and his brother, Herbert E. Rees of Keosauqua, Iowa.

Funeral services were held in the Bonaparte Presbyterian church at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon, Feb. 5, with Rev. C. R. McMican in charge. Interment in Bonaparte cemetery.
