William Harmon Vornkahl

William Harmon Vornkahl was born the son of Earnest and Elizabeth Vornkahl in Clark county, Mo., Sept. 8, 1861, and departed this life, to inherit his eternal reward, April 17, 1943, at his home in Farmington, at the well ripened age of 81 years, 6 months and 25 days.

His early life was spent in Clark county, Missouri, and there he was united in marriage to Sadie Brewster on Oct. 21, 1888. This happy union has been blessed of God for almost 53 years, to be terminated at his will and purpose, through the hand of death. In November, 1897, he was converted and he has lived a joyful Christian life.

In 1909 Mr. Vornkahl became a charter member of the Farmington church of the Nazarene which is the oldest Nazarene church in Iowa. He was instrumental in bringing this pioneer organization to the Farmington community.

Mr. Vornkahl moved his family to Farmington, Oct. 21, 1936, and he became a highly respected member of the community. Death came peacefully at his home after a lingering illness of several months.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, one son, Elmer, three daughters, Mary Von Seggen, Ada and Effie Vornkahl, all of Farmington. He also leaves five grandchildren, Marvin, Merril and Melbourne Vornkahl, and Milo and Wilma Von Seggen; one great granddaughter, Karen Vornkahl and one nephew, Walter Sullivan. One sister, Mrs. Amelia Sullivan preceded him in death in 1900.

Funeral services were held at the Church of the Nazarene in Farmington Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. with the Rev. O.C. Weigel officiating assisted by Rev. C.C. Swalwell. Interment was in Farmington Greenglade cemetery. Music was by Keith Gaston with Miss Marilyn Cummings of Ladora, Iowa, accompanist. Bearers were Philip Wallentine, Arthur Von Seggen, Harold White, J.C. Weaver, Earl Enderweisen and Clyde Gaston.
