MRS. FLORA PONTE

Flora Ponte, daughter of Stephen and Martha Flood, was born in Farmington, Iowa, December 19, 1858, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Essie Klein, in Kewanee, Ill., Sept. 21, 1949, aged 90 years, 9 months and 2 days.

Her entire life was lived in Farmington, except for the time spent in her daughter’s home when advancing years and illness made it impossible for her to remain in her own home. In her last illness of 21 months she was a patient sufferer, and always had a ready smile for those who were caring for her. Her memory was good up to the very last, and she loved to speak of the early days in Farmington.

She was married to Octave Ponte in 1878. Eight children were born of this union, five whom are still living. The deceased are Lottie Ball, and Fred and Charles Ponte. The living children are Mrs. Essie Klein of Kewanee, Ill, Mrs. Neva Walline of Cambridge, Ill., Roy Ponte of Farmington, Willard of Keokuk, and Chauncey of Waterloo. Besides these sons and daughters, there are seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was a good mother who looked well to the ways of her household, and was a good neighbor and friend. Of her the Master will say, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.’

Funeral services were held at the Swan Funeral Home Saturday afternoon at 2:00. Interment in the Farmington Cemetery.
