OBITUARY

Again friends and loved one are in deep mourning because of the death of a dear friend and a loved one. This time the victim is one of our one-time citizens who was far advanced in years and was a most highly respected and honored gentleman ---- Joseph Dugan Norris.

Joseph Dugan Norris was born in Coshocton county, Ohio, on Jan. 9, 1849. On Dec. 29, 1872, he was married to Nancy Catherine Jones of Noble, Ill. To this union seven children were born, five of whom died in infancy. Another, Mrs. Eleanor Murphee, died in 1903. In 1918, on Sept. 29, Mrs. Norris died, and on April 4, 1929 his son, John Robert died. On last July 26, his brother, George Norris died.

Since the death of his wife, Mr. Norris has made his home with his granddaughter, Mrs. Stanley O. Sherwood, of Moberly, Mo.

On last Labor Day, Mr. Norris was not feeling well and went to see a doctor. Since that time his health has failed rapidly and for the past month he has been in serious condition. Death came as a welcome relief on March 8, while he was at the home where he had been so tenderly cared for. Mr. Norris had attained the ripe old age of 82 years 1 month and 29 days.

Surviving are six grandchildren: Mrs. Stanley O. Sherwood, Moberly, Mo.; P. W. Murphee of Chicago, Ill.; R. E. Murphee of Tulsa, Okla.; E. L. Murphee of Kahoka, Mo.; Clifford Norris of Quincy, Ill. and Shelly Norris of St. Louis, Mo., also 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In the spring of 1901, Mr. Norris moved to Kahoka and on January of the following year he went into the livery business with W. O. Tucker. Twelve years later he sold his interest to his son, John. And while for the past 12 years he has been in the home of his granddaughter at Moberly, yet he has many friends here who regard him highly and offer their sympathy to the bereaved loved ones.

Funeral services were conducted from the Christian church, Thursday morning at 11:00, with the Pastor, L. H. West in charge. Interment was at the Kahoka cemetery beside his wife.
