ROBERT SETH MERRICK

Robert Seth Merrick, son of LeGrande and Pemma Slaughter Merrick, was born near Farmington, Iowa on May 22, 1876. He was one of seven children, four of whom preceded him in death. Surviving are his sister, Ruth Merrick of Farmington and a brother, Thomas Merrick of Centralia, Wash.

He grew to manhood in this community and was married to Mary B. Wilson. To this union were born eight children who survive: Mrs. E. W. Gavin, Seattle, Wash.; Mrs. Roy Venning, Keokuk; Mrs. Paul Radliffe, Council Bluffs, Iowa; Merrill B. Merrick, Cedar Falls; Mrs. W. D. Carr, Fort Madison; Sgt. Robert S. Merrick, Camp Maxey, Texas; Mrs. Lewis Wirtz, Keokuk; and Dorothy Merrick of Santa Barbara, Calif.

He left Farmington about thirty years ago and has lived in Keokuk since then where he was employed by Swift & Co., until he was forced to retire because of ill health.

He passed away at a Des Moines hospital after being ill a week with pneumonia. He was a believer in God and attended church when possible.

Funeral services were held from the First Baptist church, Farmington, Wednesday afternoon, with Rev. W. L. Green officiating. Interment was in McDaniel cemetery.

Music was provided by the Rev. and Mrs. Hahn of the Nazarene church.
