Lewis Mize, son of Samuel and Nancy Brewster Mize, was born Nov. 19, 1850, near Bloomfield, Davis county, Iowa, and passed away May 28, 1941, at the farm home at the age of ninety-one years, six months and nine days.

He was one of a family of five brothers and sister all of whom have passed on. He lived in the home of his birth place until the age of seven years when his parents located on a farm near Canton, Mo.

When a young man he studied law at the Canton University but farm life becoming his preference his years were given to this work.

On Nov. 11, 1878 he was united in marriage with Nannie Fowler, eldest daughter of Lewis and Meribah Fowler. Four children were born to this union: Jessie Lee Eager of Saskatchewan, Canda(sic); Lawrence L., Mabel Alice and Clinton of Vernon Prairie.

He is survived by these and three grandchildren, Dale D. Mize, Richard Livingston Eager and Evelyn Lucille Eager. The beloved wife and mother passed away June 27, 1924.

He was a devoted and generous husband and father and during his active years he gave unreservedly of time and labor to s friend and neighbor. His love of nature and the outdoor life increased with the years and as long as physically able his daily walks in the field were pleasure and satisfaction.

The departure of a life that has spanned ninety years is like the falling of a pillar of a home. But we cannot think he is far away, only resting for that future day when the Master will call him to work anew.

Funeral services were held at Center Chapel conducted by the pastor, Rev. C. H. Orf with vocal solos by Keith Gaston. Burial in Center cemetery.
