Samuel Ezra Kelley

Sam Kelley, son of Ezra S. and Mary Manhard Kelley, was born May 10, 1906 at Farmington and passed away at Veterans Hospital, Knoxville, Iowa, July 25, 1957.

He received his education in the Farmington Grade School. In 1939 he moved to Emmetsburg where he lived with his brother, Eugene and family until he entered the U. S. Army where he served from 1942 through 1944. He lived with his mother in Oskaloosa until he was hospitalized at the Veterans Hospital in 1946. He was a loyal friend and the doctors and nurse remarked that he was an exceptionally good patient.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and brother-in-law, Max Nelson.

Surviving are two sisters, Miss Lela Kelley of Chicago, Ill. and Mrs. Gladys Nelson of Audubon, Iowa. One brother, Eugene of Lake City, Iowa, five nieces and nephews.

Services were held at he Congregational Church, July 28th in Farmington with the Rev. Robert Folkert of the Keosauqua Congregational Church officiating.

Burial was in the Farmington Cemetery. Pallbearers were Merle Tucker, Elwood Vance, Frances Woods, Harley Grimm,, Horton Kelley and Edward Kelley.
