MRS. ALICE JACK BURIED SUNDAY
---------------------
Native of Farmington, Seventy-five years Old,
----Always a Worker For Home TownThe death of Mrs. Alice Jack Thursday, January 23, at the age of seventy-five years, has removed to the higher sphere, one of the salt of the earth.
She had been in poor health for the last two or three years, yet it was hoped that time would restore her strength.
So cheerful and uncomplaining was she that the seriousness of her condition was not known. She had been moved to the home of her sister, Mrs. George Neff a few weeks before. It was in the arms of her devoted niece, Mrs. Minnie Westcott, that she breathed her last.
Alice Luella Anderson, daughter of Joseph and Minerva Anderson, was born in Farmington, Iowa, July 10, 1854 in the old house now owned by Lillie Lewis. Here she was married to John Jack January 26, 1882. He died two years ago on Christmas day. Her life was spent in Farmington. She had been identified with many of the good works of the town. Quietly and with unassuming modesty she rendered faithful, earnest and untiring service. Whither it were the making of garments for the needy or on committee, it was down without thought of reward or compliment. She never considered self when there was anything to be done.
She played the organ at the Congregational church for years when organs were used.
For thirty-five years she was a faithful member of Chapter O P. E. O.
She was treasurer of Mizpah Chapter No. 24 O. E. S. at the time of her death having held the _____?_____ five years.
She had been president of the Cemetery Association for many years, still holding the office to the end of her life. Here she had been an ardent worker until illness prevented further activities.
She died January 23, 1930 and was laid to rest in the cemetery on the hill which had long been the object of her care.
The funeral services were conducted from the Methodist church Sunday afternoon with Rev. W. M. Doughty in charge. The members of the P. E. O., Eastern Star and Cemetery Association attended as a body to do honor to her memory.
