Jessie Inez Jones was born in Scotland County, Mo., near Cantril, Ia., on Jan. 28, 1872 and passed away June 28, 1955, at the age of 83 years 5 months. She was a daughter of Henry K. and Caroline Rugh, who preceded her in death.
She was married to Gilbert B. Jones on Dec. 22, 1901. To this union seven children were born. An infant son preceded her in death. Surviving are her husband; four daughters: Mrs. Minnie Decker, Promise City, Ia.; Mrs. Helen Vehslage, Childress, Texas; Mrs. Marguerite McLeland, Cantril, Ia.; and Mrs. Mae Powell, Ottumwa, Ia.; two sons, Glen and Lynn of Belton, Texas. Also four sisters: Mrs. Minnie Phares, Memphis, Mo.; Mrs. Cora Biggs, Arbela, Mo.; Mrs. Mary Cook, Kirksville, Mo.; and Mrs. Nellie Nelson, Pomona, California; three brothers, Scott, Harry, and Cecil Rugh, all of California; fifteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
In her youth she joined the Prairie View Methodist church and remained a life-long member.
She lived in or near Cantril most of her lifetime. She was a devoted, unselfish, loving wife and mother and a loyal Christian friend and neighbor.Funeral services were held at Prairie View Methodist church at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, in charge of Rev. H.C. Shaw, assisted by Rev. Harold Harryman. Burial was in Providence Cemetery.
