SETH W. ROUSH

Seth W. Roush, the fourth child of a family of ten children, the son of John A. and Eliza Ann Roush, was born Oct. 17, 1867 at Lebanon, Iowa. In that community he received his early education in the public school and was regular in his attendance at Sunday School and worship service in the Methodist church.

Having grown to manhood he entered into the sacred relationship of marriage with Vienna A. McCullough, Jan. 31, 1894. Four children came to grace their home, two sons, Fossie and Hoyt, and twin daughters, Olive and Orpha. For more than 53 years Mr. and Mrs. Roush enjoyed the companionship of each other, until Aug. 27, 1948, when he peacefully fell asleep, in his own home, at the age of 80 years, 10 months and 10 days.

In the year 1908 Mr. Roush with his family moved to Friona, Tex. While there they united in active membership with the Congregational church. Two years later they moved to Nora, Nebr., where he engaged in farming and was active in the Methodist church. In the year 1912 he brought his family to Jewell county, Kansas and for several years they lived north of Jewell City. In 1919 he purchased the farm south of town, which was his home until the time of his death. In Jewell he transferred his membership to the Evangelical United Brethren church, where he remained a faithful member until his death.

The remaining close relatives are the following: His faithful companion, Vienna A. Roush; two sons, Fossie of Jewell and Hoyt of Charlotte, N. C.; two daughters, Mrs. Fred Rodgers of Jewell and Mrs. Wm. J. Remus of Glen Elder. There are seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.

There is one living sister, Mrs. Annie Duckworth of Keosauqua, Iowa, and two living half brothers, Leigh Roush of Asheville, N. C. and Wilbur Roush of Sipe Springs, Tex. A group of nieces and nephews and a host of friends are saddened by his passing.

Mr. Roush was a lover of good music and had acquired the ability to play several instruments. He enjoyed his home and did all he could to make the home congenial and a place of enjoyment for every member of the family. He had artistic ability and did decorative painting.
