B.C. Casady, 61, Cantril Banker Dies In Hospital

Funeral Set For Saturday Afternoon At Cantril Methodist Church; Wife and Five Children Survives.

B.C. Casady, 61, prominent banker died early Wednesday morning at the St. Joseph hospital in Ottumwa, following a serious illness of several weeks. He had been in failing health for about two years but had successfully concealed the fact from his friends and family. Born at Cantril September 13, 1883, he was the son of John H. and Emma Powell Casady. He entered the banking business in Cantril in 1914 after an eight year partnership with his father in the J.H. Casady & Son Produce business.

From 1914 to 1930 he was cashier of the State Bank of Cantril and when it merged with the Cantril Savings Bank to become the present State Savings Bank, he continued as cashier.

He received his education in the Cantril schools. On September 16, 1903, he married Stella E. Wilson of Red Oak. Five children were born to this union.

Mr. Casady was a past member of the Cantril Town Council and a director of the Cantril school board, a member of the Iowa and American Bankers Associations, the Modern Woodmen of America and Masonic lodges and a member of the Methodist church board. He was prominent in Democratic circles.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Cantril Methodist church in charge of the Rev. Jay Waterman, assisted by Rev. J.C. Clark. Honorary bearers will be the bankers of Van Buren county. Bearers will be Raymond Smith, George Norris, Joe Hootman, Wesley Greene, Selma Daughrity and Lloyd Smith. The Williams brothers quartette will furnish the music. Burial will be in the Maple Grove cemetery at Cantril.

Surviving are his wife Stella; two sons, Clyde S. Casady of Boston, Mass., who was with his father a few weeks ago and will come to the home at Cantril later; Carl B. Casady of the Navy, stationed in Ottumwa; three daughters, Mrs. Lloyd Jemison, Mrs. Charles Martin and Mrs. Claud Chesmore, all of Ottumwa; several grandchildren; two brothers, H.J. Casady of Cantril; Warren Casady of California; two sisters, Mrs. Carl Sarzer of Corvalis, Oregon and Mrs. Will Hanna of (remainder is missing)
