MRS. MARY CARTER

Mrs. Mary Carter, daughter of William and Susan Pherigo, was born March 20, 1864, at Troy, Iowa, and departed this life November 17, 1941, at her daughter's home in Douds at the age of 78 years, 7 months and 28 days.

She spent her entire life in Davis and Van Buren counties. She was a member of the White Elm Free Methodist church.

On June 19, 1881 she was united in marriage to Joseph Carter. To this union were born seven children, four girls and three boys of which one boy and one girl have preceded her to the home beyond the skies. Her husband also preceded her on May 4, 1937. The children living are Alma Miller of Ottumwa, Lettie Salters and Susan Hull of Douds and Edward and Lewis Carter of Iowa City. She also leaves to mourn her departure 30 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 19 at 1 p.m., at the Pedrick funeral home at Douds and were conducted by the Rev. E.K. Parrott, Methodist pastor at Douds.

The music was furnished by Mrs. Finney, Mrs. Carroll, Forrest Hanshaw and Mark Doud with Mrs. Pollock at the piano. Burial was by her husband's side in the Hidlebaugh cemetery southwest of Selma.
