He grew to manhood in the vicinity of his birth.

On June 30, 1915, he was united in marriage with Mary Etta Campbell of near Worthington, Mo. To this union one daughter was born, who died in infancy. A short time after their marriage, they went to Montana, where they worked for a time. In the spring 1916 they staked their claim to a homestead which is now in McCone county. In 1921 they moved to a farm near Ashland, Wis., and in 1924 moved to Worthington, Mo. He established a home in 1925 on land formerly owned by his great grandfather, Peter Nichols.

He traveled for a wholesale drug company with headquarters in Des Moines, Iowa, from 1923 to 1930. Since that time, he was an active farmer until his health started to fail 4 years ago. He put up a strenuous fight to regain his health but his body became to frail to endure more.

Cleve was honest and industrious, and whatever he tackled, whether work or play, he did with will and determination.

He leaves to mourn his death, his faithful companion, 3 sisters, one brother: Mrs. Sylvia Fisher, Mrs. Lily Helmhout, and brother, Ray, of near Milton, Iowa, and Mrs. Eva Haney of Keosauqua; 4 nephews, one grandniece, one grandnephew and many other relatives and friends.
