MRS. ADA BREWER RITES WERE HELD SATURDAY

DOUDS-Final rites for Mrs. Ada Brewer, 82, were held at the Pedrick Funeral Home on Saturday, March 12, at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. Robert G. Farr had charge and Mrs. Lizzie Pollock was pianist.

Interment was in Miller Chapel cemetery. Pallbearers included Delber Plowman, Joe Salter, Harold Harryman, M.H. Finney, Davis Pollock and Roscoe Haney.

Mrs. Ada Brewer

Ada Bell Griest, daughter of Lewis and Hannah De Haven Griest was born near Carthage, Ill., May 8, 1866, and departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fern Johnston, Libertyville, Iowa, March 9, 1949, at the age of 82 years, 10 months and 1 day. She moved with her parents later to Van Buren county.

On May 15, 1884, she was united in marriage to John Wesley Brewer. They made their home near Utica, Iowa, later moving to a farm near Douds. Her husband preceded her in death, April 7, 1929. To this union were born eight children: Grace B. Fellows, Red Bluff, Calif.; Olive B. Johnston, Libertyville, Iowa; Charlie W. Brewer, Birmingham, Iowa; Lester H. Brewer, Peoria, Ill.; Ethel M. Hissem, Milton, Iowa; W. Carroll Brewer, Hemingford, Neb.; Glen A. Brewer, Ogalalla, Nev.; Van E. Brewer, Minneapolis, Minn. She also took to raise at the age of 13 years her cousin, Lena Fickel Ellis, who is now deceased.

She leaves to mourn her passing her children, 17 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, a number of other relatives, and a host of friends, all of whom join in extending their utmost sympathy to the bereaved families.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Ida Brewer and Mrs. Ssther(sp) Koepp, and by one brother, Asa Griest.

Since 1882 she made her home in several communities of Van Buren county. She was a member of the Douds-Leando Methodist church and while health permitted took an active part in the church and aid society.
