Paul C. Stewart

Paul C., son of Ruth and Henry Stewart, was born in Bedford county, Pa., Oct. 10, 1846. Dec. 23, 1869, he united in marriage to Ruhanna True. This union was blessed with seven children, two daughters, three sons, George, Roy and Norris. Two children died in infancy. Shortly after marriage the family moved to Van Buren county, Iowa, where he has practically spent the remainder of his life. Mrs. Stewart preceded him in death about four years ago.

Mr. Stewart was a loving father, an industrious, well loved friend and neighbor. He loved to read and in his last years reading has been a great comfort to him.

Since the death of Mrs. Stewart he has made his home with his children. For some time he has been in failing health, due to the infirmities of age. He passed from this life Sunday, May 22, 1927, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Rose Elerick at Keosauqua, aged 80 years, 7 months and 12 days.

He leaves to mourn his passing two daughters, Mrs. Minnie Sanford of Douds, Mrs. Rose Elerick of Keosauqua; three sons, George of Ottumwa, Norris of Wapella, Iowa, and Roy of Libertyville; sixteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, besides other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 24, at the Burnett Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Paul Jackson, pastor of the Congregational church. Interment at Miller’s Chapel.
