S.A. Barker, Douds Merchant, Dies Saturday

DOUDS. - Stanley A. Barker, 65, prominent Douds merchant, died Saturday afternoon at Ottumwa Hospital following an illness of several months.

He had operated a general store in Douds since 1920. Mr. Barker was a director of the Farmers and Traders Savings Bank here and owned and operated farms south of Douds.

The son of Hugh and Anna Saunderson Barker, he was born on a farm south of Keosauqua Jan. 12, 1898. His early life was spent in the Keosauqua and Selma communities. He graduated from Keosauqua High School in 1918. A veteran of World War I, he served in the Army.

On Feb. 22, 1919, he married Bertha Dorothy in Ottumwa. Since 1920, they had made their home in Douds.

Surviving are his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Anna Margaret Morrison of Rock Island, Ill., and Mrs. Dorothy Pollock of Douds; five grandchildren; three brothers, Hallie Barker of Keosauqua, Walter Barker of Selma, and Mernice Barker of Mechanicsville; and four sisters, Mrs. Hazel Roush of Douds, Mrs. Clair Roush of Mount Sterling, Mrs. Orpha Plowman of Keosauqua and Miss Willa Barker of Selma.

Two brothers, one sister and two grandsons preceded him in death.

He was a member of Christ Methodist Church at Douds; Celestial Lodge No. 413, A.F. & A.M. at Douds; Moore Chapter No. 23, RAM, and El Chanan Commandery No. 28, K.T., at Keosauqua; and John Hynson Reneker Post No. 494, American Legion, at Douds.

He was active in the Douds Community Club and the Douds Field Day Association and also took an active role in community events.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Christ Methodist Church, with the pastor, the Rev. G. Basil Tadlock, officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery.

The body is at the Pedrick Funeral Home.

A memorial fund has been established, payable to Christ Methodist Church.
