JOHN T. CRAWFORD DIED AT HIS HOME SUNDAY

Funeral services for John T. Crawford, a well-known farmer, who died at his home one mile north of the Friendship church, Sunday July 24th, were held at the Pleasant Hill church, Monday afternoon at 2:30. Burial was made in the cemetery there.

The service was conducted by Rev. Arthur S. Olsen, pastor of the Memphis Methodist church, and the church was filled with the many relatives and friends of the deceased.

The pall bearers were Wm. McRoberts, D.C. Mustoe, Ross Leach, Newell Fogle, Crawford and Arthur McWilliams.

A quartette composed of Mr. and Mrs. Olsen, Mrs. Fie Oliver and Dean Dodge sang "Safe in the Arms of Jesus," "Going Down the Valley" and "Sometine We'll Understand," Mrs. Charles Swift playing the accompaniments.

John T. Crawford, son of Mathew and Mary Crawford, was born near Birmingham, Iowa, Aug. 4, 1853. He was 73 years, 11 months and 24 days of age at his death. In 1879 he with his parents moved to Scotland County and has resided her since.

In 1880 on Sept. 14, he was united in marriage to Miss Ella Morris. To this union were born three children. Willie who preceded him in death at the age of nine months. In his early youth, Mr. Crawford, accepted the Christian life, and was united with the Methodist church near Birmingham and in 1879 with the Presbyterian church at McAdow, and was elected deacon. Later he moved his membership to the Pleasant Hill Church, and was elected Elder and clerk of session which office he filled acceptably and faithfully. He was also the Superintendent of the Sunday School, and teacher of the Men's Bible class.

A more faithful loyal servant of the church never found. He was both honest with himself and with others. His life was one long journey upward, and when he was nearing the end of his journey he told his loved ones that "All was well, and he was ready to go." The influence of this good man and citizen will continue to live.

Besides his loving companion, he leaves to mourn two daughters, Ethel Crawford, and Mrs. Imogene Peterson, three grandchildren, Mildred Mae, Coralie, and John Raymond Peterson, and aged mother, one brother, Charlie Crawford, three sisters: Mrs. Alex Lomon, of Polo, Kansas, and Mrs. Charles Black, and Mrs. Cora Black both of Memphis.
