ALONZO D. POOLE
**Handwritten: 47Alonzo D. Poole (Lon) adopted son of Benjamin and Rachel Poole was born near Leando, March 28, 1878 and died at his home in Leando, August 5th. He had been an invalid for more than two years and confined to his bed for seven weeks. Mr. Poole's entire life was spent in Van Buren County.
On November 22, 1899 he married Miss Celia Anson of Kilbourne and to this union ten children were born all living. Mr. Poole lived on a farm near Kilbourne for several years then moved to Leando where he and his sons operated a garage until ill health compelled him to retire.
Besides his faithful wife who tenderly cared for him, he is survived by the following children, Elsie Bogue of Salem, Weltha Paris of Gorin, Mo., Bernard Poole, Willard Poole, Harold Poole and Roy Poole of Van Dyke, Mich., Mrs. Helen Saunders of Detroit, Orville Poole, Detroit, Harold (err: Wallace) Poole of Rockford of Rockford, Ill., and Mrs. Vera Adkins of Fairfield; fourteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held on Thursday at ten o'clock at Pedrick funeral home, Rev. J.C. Austin in charge. Music by Larry Pollock, vocalist and Elizabeth Pollock pianist. Pallbearers were the six sons of Mr. Poole.
Those from out of town attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Adrian Paris, Gorin, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Orville Poole, Royal Oak, Mich., Mr. and Mrs. Willard Poole, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Poole, Bernard Poole, Van Dyke, Mich., Mrs. Helen Saunders, Roy Poole, Detroit, Mich., Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Poole, Rockford, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Hamilton of Ft. Madison, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bogue, Salem, Mrs. Vera Adkins and children of Fairfield, Mrs. Ira Stanbus and daughters, Idella and Alice of Murray.
