Margaret Ellen Smith, daughter of Peter and Hester Smith, was born near Cantril, Van Buren county, Iowa, May 18, 1851. At the age of two years her father moved the family to Clark county
[Missouri]. There they continued to live until the marriage of their daughter to Thomas Malloy, on March 12, 1874, since that time Clark county has been her home. She was the mother of six children namely: Mrs. Ella White, of Carrollton, Mo.; Wm. Malloy, of Denver, Colo.; Mrs. Hettie Johnston, of Nebraska; Mrs. Lowena Lang, of Edina, Mo.; and Mrs. Anna Perkins at whose home she died, and Miss Zue, who was her constant attendant during her prolonged illness. After the death of her husband, Mrs. Malloy came with her family to Medill where her children grew to manhood and womanhood. She was a member of the Medill Cumberland Presbyterian church and made her religion her every day life. Mother Malloy as we all knew her was a woman of excellent character, a friend of the young and old, numbering her friends by her acquaintances, always ready to help the needy and living up to the words of the Master: "Forget not to entertain strangers whereby ye may entertain angels unawares."
Of a cheerful disposition, never complaining even in the hours of greatest suffering, remembering to give a smile and kind word to all.
Besides her children Mrs. Malloy leaves 8 grandchildren and one great grandchild, and a host of other relatives and friends who will all miss her and remember her as a truly beloved woman.
Mrs. Malloy departed this life August 13, 1920, after 69 years of usefulness. The funeral service was conducted in the Cumberland Presbyterian church by the pastor, after which the body was laid to rest to await the resurrection morning.
