**Handwritten: 1944ELDON.-Pfc. Francis E. (Dee) Canny, 27, son of Mr. and Mrs. E.L. Canny of Eldon, was killed in action July 15 in France, according to a message received Monday from the war department. He was born June 15, 1917, in Eldon, and had always lived here until he left December 26, 1942, for military training at Camp Robinson, Ark. Canny attended school in Eldon and was married March 22, 1941, to Miss Roberta Evans of Douds. He sailed December 12, 1941, to Miss Roberta Evans of Douds. He sailed December 12, 1943, for England. Private Canny is survived by his wife and a daughter, Delores Elaine, of Douds; his parents of Eldon; three sisters, Mrs. Harve Downing and Mrs. Warren Curtis of Ottumwa and Mrs. Ormand Starr of Eldon, and three brothers, Robert and Jack Canny of Ottumwa and Pvt. Donald Canny, with the army in the Pacific area. He was preceded in death by one brother, Billy Gene Canny.

DOUDS SOLDIER DIES IN FRENCH BATTLE
**Handwritten: 1944Pfc. Francis Canny of Douds was killed in action in Franceon July 15, according to a message received by his wife, Mrs. Roberta Canny, who resides with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Stagers of Douds.
Pfc. Canny was the son of Mr. and Mrs. E.L. Canny of Eldon. He entered the service in December, 1942, and landed in England several months ago.
Besides his wife and parents, he leaves a daughter, Delores, of Douds and six brothers and sisters, Mrs. Mary Downey, Robert Canny, Jack Canny and Mrs. Warren Curtis of Ottumwa, Mrs. Ormand Starr of Eldon and Pvt. Donald Canny in the army in the Pacific area.
