Son Of Ottumwan Killed In Germany
Sgt. Robert V. Baird, 22, above, son of Mrs. Dorothy Baird of 1230 Greenwood drive, and husband of Mrs. Arla Mae Baird of Fairfield, was killed in action in Germany November 10.
According to word of the death from the war department, Sergeant Baird was buried at Lorraine, France.
The sergeant, a former resident of the Douds vicinity, entered the service October 26, 1942, and took his basic training at Ft. Knox, Ky., and Ft. Lewis, Wash. He was transferred overseas in February of this year and was first gunner in a tank.
he married Miss Arla Mae Kemp of Douds, January 10, 1944.
Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by two sisters, Mary and Ruth Baird, both of Ottumwa, and a brother, John Baird, of near Douds. He was preceded in death by his father.
Memorial service will be held next Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Leando church.

Baird Memorial
**Handwritten: 1944Memorial services for Sgt. Robert V. Baird will be held Suday(sp) afternoon, December 17 at the Leando Methodist church in charge of The Rev. E.K. Parrott. Services will be at two o'clock.
Sgt. Baird was killed in action of Lorraine, France, on November 10th. His body has been laid to rest in an American cemetery in France.
