Former Ottumwa Guardsman Killed

ELDON.-Sgt. David P. (Dick) Murray, (above), son of Mrs. Edna Welch of Eldon, was killed in action July 8 in France according to a telegram received from the war department Saturday by his wife. Sergeant Murray was born April 26, 1919, in Eldon and lived here until the time of his enlistment in November, 1940, when he joined the national guard at Ottumwa. He sailed with the mechanized cavalry to England in April. Sergeant Murray was active in athletes during the time he attemded Eldon high school, and was outstanding in football.

He was married to Miss Plesah Hewitt in December, 1940, who survives, besides a son, David Paul, and a daughter, Rita Ann; his mother, two sisters, Mrs. Clyde Fitzsimmons, 333 Evergreen street, Ottumwa, and Mrs. Yvonne Pyle of Long Beach, Calif. His father, Arnold Murray died in December, 1918.
