WINIFRED SYFERT
Winifred Lazenby Syfert was born in Ohio on may 19, 1869 and passed away after a lingering illness at Ottumwa, Iowa on April 25, 1954, at the age of 84 years, 11 months and 11 days.
At an early age she came to Iowa with her parents, where she spent the rest of her entire life.
She was united in marriage to the late Joseph Sybert on Feb. 13, 1895. To this union two children were born: one daughter, Eva Cook of Medford, Oregon, and one sons, Lloyd Syfert, who preceded her in death in March, 1951. Her husband also preceded her in the years 1935.
She with her family, spent most of her life on their home farm near Mt. Zion, until the year 1922, when she and her husband moved to Keosauqua after retiring from the family farm.
She was a member of the Presbyterian church at Mt. Zion, and after moving to Keosauqua changed her membership to the Methodist church, of which she was an active worker as long as her health would permit.
Winifred was the oldest of a family of nine children. One brother, Will Lazenby of Ottumwa, Iowa, and one sister, Mrs. Amy Neis, of Keosauqua, Iowa, survive. The other six, one brother and five sisters, preceded her in death.
Those left to mourn her death are her daughter Eva; two grandchildren, Bill and Ruth Cook, also a son-in-law Charles Cook and a daughter-in-law, Wilda Syfert, who so faithfully helped care for her in her declining years, one sister and one brother, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
To know her was to love her.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 2? at the Keosauqua Methodist church in charge of Rev. B.C. Bastuscheck. Burial was in Fellows cemetery.
