Hannah Maria Hodges Sayers 1817-1899

SAYERS

Hannah Maria Hodges was born October 6, 1817, in Monroe County, New York, was married April 17, 1839 to B. F. Hamlin. To them were born three children, Horace A., Charlotte A. and John H. Charlotte died January 2, 1842. They moved to Iowa in 1852. The father died April 18, 1857.

In 1863 deceased married James Sayers, who died in 1882. Mrs. Sayers united with the Baptist Missionary church in 1864, being a charter member of the Harrisburg church. She came to reside with H. A. Hamlin in 1882 and has made her home with him since, with the exception of five years spent in Nebraska. Her death was very unexpected. She was making preparations to go to Mt. Pleasant to reside with her youngest son John, but on Saterday eve at 6:30 o’clock she was suddenly stricken, became unconscious and died at 10:35 o’clock the same evening.

Always a kind and faithful wife and loving mother, she leaves many friends who sorrow with her relatives, her two sons and their families, besides two step-children and many grand-children and great grand-children.

The funeral services were held at her son’s, 3 miles north of Bonaparte on Monday afternoon, June 27, 1899, conducted by Rev. Scofield, and interment took place at the Bonaparte cemetary. [sic]
