DEATH OF S. T. BAKER
An Old Settler and Widely Known
Citizen Goes to His Rest
The Funeral.

Solomon T. Baker died Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock. For many months Mr. Baker had been in feeble health, but his sickness did not take a serious phase until a little over a week before his death. For many hours before the end came he was unconscious.

Solomon T. Baker was born in Jefferson county, Ohio, March 9, 1815. He was twice married; first to Sarah Malone, and last to her sister Delila Malone. There were seven children, all by the last marriage. Of these, four are living, viz: Henry, Oelle (Mrs. Troop), John, and Lucy (Mrs. Varner), the last two being residents of this town. Mrs. Baker died on the 27th of May, 1897.

Mr. Baker came to Keosauqua in 1852. When the war of the Rebellion broke out he enlisted in the 3rd Iowa Cavalry, Co. G, and served three years. After his term of service expired he remained with the army in the capacity of sutler, until the end of the hostilities.

Mr. Baker had two brothers living – Samuel Baker, of Dolevan, Ill., who is here and Mr. Emmer M. Baker, who resides in Springfield, Mo. Three sisters are buried in Keosauqua.

Harper Post attended the funeral in a body. Rev. C. E. Perkins officiated, the services being held in the Congregational church Monday at 2 p.m.
