Obituary of Mrs. Belle Calhoun
**Handwritten: 1925

Isabel Barker, daughter of Joseph and Anna Barker, was born in Carroll county, Ohio, June 28, 1838. Came to Iowa in 1840 and located near Mt. Zion, where she grew to womanhood. She attended a private school conducted in Birmingham at that time. Early in life she confessed Christ publicly and joined the Mt. Zion congregation.

She was united in marriage to Mr. Newton Calhoun in November, 1881. To this union was born one daughter Mary Jane.

Since her marriage(sp), Mrs. Calhoun has lived in Birmingham where she was active in church work and everything that tended for the betterment of the community.

Five weeks ago last Monday she fell and fractured her hip, but all that medical skill and gentle nursing could do, the shock was too great for her strength and death relieved her suffering on Monday morning Nov. 2, aged 87 years, 4 months and 4 days.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary June, two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Perrine and Mrs. Theresa Sherod of Mt. Zion and a host of relatives and friends.

The funeral service was held at the Presbyterian church on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 in charge of Rev. H.C. Irvine, pastor, assisted by Rev. Peter Bock of Russell, Iowa, and Rev. L.V. Nash of Birmingham. Interment in the Maple Hill cemetery.
