ELIZA E. THORNTON
**Handwritten: 1929

Eliza E. Tannahill was born near Selma in Village township in Van Buren county, Iowa, May 14, 1845, and died at her home in Village township June 3, 1929, age 85 years and 20 days.

She was educated in the public schools and at Troy academy and spent many years in teaching school.

On Sept. 10, 1880, she was united in marriage to John Thornton in Coal Creek, Colorado, who preceded her in death many years ago. She and her son William E. Thornton have lived on the farm for many years.

She leaves to mourn and to miss, her one son William E., one sister, Mrs. C. Bucey of Douds and nephews in other places. Besides these she leaves her circle of friends.

Funeral services were held from the home in charge of the pastor, Rev. C.H. Chader, who spoke from the text, First Corinthians 15, 41, 42.

The Selma ladies quartet sang three beautifjl selections. Interment was made in Passmore cemetery.

Mrs. Eliza Thornton, a pioneer resident of this vicinity and 85 years old, died at her home three miles south of here Monday at noon. One son, William survives. Funeral services were held from the home Tuesday afternoon with Rev. William Heger in charge. Members of the Selma church choir sang several selections. Interment was in the .....
