OBITUARY OF DR. McClure
**Handwrittten: 1927

Thomas Gilmore McClure, son of George W. and Nancy E. McClure, was born in Hancock county, Ill., March 28, 1851.

On Feb. 9, 1924, he was stricken with pneumonia from which he never regained his former health and after three years and 8 months of patient suffering fell to sleep at the home of his son, Clare, Sept. 4, 1927, at the age of 76 years, 5 months, 7 days.

When six years of age he moved with his parents to Scotland county, Mo., where he made his home and attended the public schools until 20 years of age. At this time he entered the Kirksville State Normal fitting himself for teaching and reading medicine at the same time with Dr. Barrett and Dr. Crawford.

In the beginning of 1875 he entered the Keokuk Medical Colledge(sp), graduating in 1878, and locating the same year at Douds, Iowa, where he made his home and practiced his profession for 49 years, being ever true and faithful to his patients, many times braving the storms and neglecting his own health to be with them.

He joined the Masonic order at Greensburg, Mo., demitting from that place and joining the Celestial Lodge No. 413 at Douds, Ia., having been a Mason 53 years at the time of his death. He was also a member of Chapter and Commandery at Keosauqua, Ia., and order of Eastern Star.

In 1882 he was married to Ella R. Crawford. To this union was born one son Clare who survives. He was a devoted and loving husband and father.

Dr. McClure leaves to mourn his loss, one son, Clare, and his daughter-in-law, May, two foster granddaughters, Florence and Mildred, all of Douds, Iowa, and three brothers, Wm. M. McClure of Gooding, Idaho, John H. of Kirksville, Mo., George W. of Hunnewell, Mo., also several nephews and nieces.
