Mr. John Boyer died on Saturday morning at his home on a farm near Douds. Funeral services were held at the late home on Sunday afternoon. Mr. Boyer would have been 70 years of age on his next birthday, May 12.

He had gone to an Ottumwa hospital about three weeks ago, returning home after about two weeks there and it was reported that his condition was improving.
-------------------------------------
1858-1927. These dates mark the opening and closing of a life well spent.

John O. Boyer, son of Isaac and Sydney Boyer, was born at Vernon, Iowa, May 12, 1858; and passed away at his home Nov. 19, 1927; aged 69 years, 6 months and 7 days.

Two brothers survive him. Martin of Ottumwa and Harry of Mercedes, Texas; one sister, Lottie died at the age of 16 months.

He was married to Ruth A. Huston of Mt. Sterling Sept. 16, 1880. They set up their new home near Douds where they have continuously lived for 47 years. He spent the winter of 1879 in Coffeyville, Kansas, making the trip on horseback. In 1892 he with his family made a trip to Idaho and Nevada. In 195 he visited California, Old Mexico, spending the winters of 1922-23 with his brother Harry and family. This union was blessed with a daughter and son, Mrs. Fannie Brodeen of Troy and George of Douds. Four grandchildren in whom he took much pride and comfort, Bessie and Ruth Brodeen and John W. and Richard Boyer. Mr. Boyer was alive to the best interests of his home and community. To those in trouble or distress his hands were always held out to them.

His last sickness of five months duration was attended by the best medical skill, and all that loving hands and hearts could do, 'but the Master called" - and as he had expressed himself during his illness - 'He was ready to go." It can be truly said of him - A good man has gone to his reward.
-------------------------
We desire to thank our many friends and neighbors for their kindness and assistance during the sickness and death of our husband and father; also for the beautiful floral offerings.

Mrs. O.J. Boyer.
Mr. G.W. Boyer and family.
Mr. C.E. Brodeen and family.
