Obituary of Mrs. Bessie L. Boyer

Mrs. Bessie Lee Boyer died at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Morrow in Douds-Leando, Iowa, Oct. 20, 1915, aged 30 years and 7 months. The funeral took place from the M.E. church in Douds Thursday, Oct. 21, 1915, Rev. G.W. Barber of South Muscatine, Iowa, conducting the services, assisted by Rev. E.S. Hehner. Her body was laid to rest in the Zion Lutheran cemetery north of Douds.

Bessie Lee Morrow was born in Douds, Iowa, April 20, 1885. She was married to George W. Boyer, January 15, 1914. In 1908 she graduated from the State Normal College of Cortland, New York, after which she taught three years in the city schools there. Coming home in 1911 she resumed her school work here for a short time. She held state certificates both in the states of New York and Iowa. Bessie was not an accomplished scholar but had a kind and loving disposition, with a Christian character and an abiding faith. Very early in life she consecrated herself to a Christian life, and ever walked and worked as such up to the close.

During her long illness and intense suffering her Christian faith and hope of a bright future were strong. And she would say Thy will not mine be done. She leaves to mourn their loss, her loving husband, father and mother, her sister Nellie D. Berryman of Walla Walla, Washington, three brothers, Roscoe and Jay of Des Moines, Iowa, and Harry at home, and a host of friends. A large concourse of people were present at the funeral service.
