Obituary of John Nelson
**Handwritten: 1923

John Nelson was born in Sweden in 1836. Died at his home in Leando, Iowa, Sept. 29, 1923, aged 87 years, 2 months and 4 days.

He was united in marriage to Miss Christiana Cederstrom in 1862. To this union five children were born, one dying in fancy(err). Those living are: Margaret Langford of Washington state, who was present during his last illness and death; Emma S. Elsensohn, of Pomeroy, Washington, Charles F. Nelson of Selma, Iowa, Gustaf N. Nelson, of Goldendale, Washington.

His wife preceded him in death in 1890. He was united in marriage the second time to Ellen Findlay Mellroup Nov. 20, 1895, who still survives him. Besides his wife and children he leaves 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren who survive him.

Mr. Nelson lived in Ottumwa two years, then settled in Chequest township in Van Buren county in 1871 and moved to Leando in 1904, where he passed away.

W.W. Campbell, undertaker at Douds, Iowa, had the funeral in charge. Services were conducted by Rev. Chas. L. Ellis of Blakesburg, Iowa, at the home Monday afternoon at 1:30, October 1, 1923. The remains were taken to the Leando cemetery for interment.
