WILLIAM E. SPERBECK
**Handwritten: 1929

William Elliott Sperbeck, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ira Sperbeck, was born in Ohio Dec, 14, 1843; and died at the home of his son, Lewis Sperbeck in Ottumwa May 16, 1929 at the age of 85 years, 5 months and 2 days. He was united in marriage to Mary Jane Smith June 28, 1866. This union was blessed with two children, one of whom ded(sp) at the age of seven years. The other child is the son, Lewis, in Ottumwa, Iowa.

Mr. Sperbeck came to Iowa at the age of 12, and has lived in Iowa ever since, with the exception of three years spent in Missouri. When the Civil war broke out he volunteered his service to his country and was enlisted in Co. C., of the 7th Iowa Cavalry. He served during the entire war.

He was united with the M.E. church early in life. His wife preceded him in death in the year 1919. He leaves to mourn and cherish his memory the one son, Lewis Sperbeck of Ottumwa, a number of nieces and nephews and the few members of the G.A.R. who still linger with us.

Funeral services were held from the Leando Methodist church Saturday afternoon by the pastor, Rev. Chader. The Douds male quartet sang three beautiful selections. Interment was made in the Leando cemetery.
