Veva Ellen Simpson

Veva Ellen, daughter of Frank and Anna Simpson, was born at Birmingham, Iowa, December 30, 1901, and after a short illness during which all that loving hands and human skill could do was done to no avail. She passed away at the home of her parents in Abingdon, Ill., February 11, 1931.

So with bowed heads and sad hearts, we submit our wills to His, "who doeth all things well", knowing sometime we shall understand and why one so young and fair should to taken us. She leaves her father, mother, sister, Mrs. Ernest Larsen of Abingdon, Illinois; grandmother, Mrs. Mary Bonnett of Birmingham, Iowa, a number of other relatives and many dear friends, both of Iowa and Abingdon to mourn their great loss.

She attended school at White Elm country school and at Selma, where the family lived for many years. She was united with the M.E. church at the age of 18 at Leando, Iowa, under the preaching of Rev. Ellis, and her life of service speaks for itself.

She came to Abingdon in July, 1927, and since made this her home. Her father has been an invalid, for the last two years, and Veva's loyalty and helpfulness to her parents has surely been worthy of commendation and highest appreciation.

As they place their trust in the one, who is our refuge and strength and ever present help in time of trouble they will cherish sweet memories of her and realize that underneath and around about them are the everlasting arms, to sustain and comfort them as they try to carry on to the end of the way.

Those who knew Veva best loved her most and they know their loss is her gain. She goes to meet her four brothers, gone on before to the City of our dreams and even now in our minds we can catch a glimpse of two more Angel hands beckoning the dear ones to come. She was a member of the Rebekah lodge and of the Christian Sunday school in Abingdon.

We sorrow, not at those without hope, for those who go home by the way of the cross, find the things for which their hearts have been most hungry, a place of love and joy in the presence of Jesus, where we shall be clothed with immortality.
