JONATHAN DENNING.

Jonathan Denning was born in Ohio in the year 1838 and died at the home of his son James of Douds, Iowa, July 9, 1923, aged 85 years, 10 months and 12 days. He came to Iowa with his parents when he was two years old and lived on a farm near Winchester, Iowa.

In the year of 1861 he was married to Sarah Bell of Keosauqua who preceded him in death August 3, 1901. To this union were born seven children, all of them growing to manhood and womanhood.

He leaves to mourn their loss four daughters and two sons, one son John having preceded his father in death September 21, 1894, at the age of 29 years; Mrs. Ida Hellyer of Rock Island, Ill.; Mrs. Flora Rambo of Keosauqua, Iowa; Mrs. E.A. Nelson of Goodwell, Okla.; Mrs. Charlie Schaffer of Douds and James and George H. of Douds. Twelve grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren, three sisters and one brother, Mrs. Mary Crawford of Memphis, Mo.; Mrs. Frank Warner of Bloomfield, Iowa; Mrs. Fred Beck of Oklahoma City, Okla.; W.R. Denning of Bosworth, Mo., and other relatives and friends are left to mourn the loss of grandfather, brother and friend.

In August, 1902, he was married to Lutheria Mosler. They made their home in Appleton City, Mo., where his wife passed away December 5, 1922. Since that time he has made his home with his sons James and George.

Mr. Denning has been a member of the Methodist church since early manhood and was one of the first trustees of the Leando church. During his long sickness he was always patient and thoughtful of others, strong in his faith, often making the remark that he could not hear his suffering if God was not with him.

Funeral services were held at the home of his son James Wednesday, July 11th, at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. F.M. Garrett of Douds. Interment was made in the Purdom cemetery.
