JOHN DANIELS

John Daniels, son of John and Elizabeth Daniels, was born March 10, 1876, in South Wales. He was baptized in that country Jan. 25, 1877.

At the age of three years he was brought by his parents to America, where they lived in Danville, Ill., until 1887. In that year he moved to Ottumwa, Iowa, in the vicinity of which he spent the greater part of his life, and where he became a member of the West End Presbyterian church. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge and the Masonic fraternity of Douds.

He married Mabel Tanner in 1897 and to them were born eight children, Elizabeth, who died in 1903, Mrs. Leroy Higdon of Ottumwa, Mrs. John Renes of Des Moines, John, Arthur, Alice, Clarence and Margaret Daniels of Douds.

Since 1919 he has made his home at Douds where his wife, Mabel Daniels, preceded him in death July 7, 1926.

In June, 1929, Mr. Daniels married Mrs. Julia L. Russell of Douds.

He died Nov. 22, 1932, after an illness of several years. Besides his wife and children he is survived by one step-daughter, Frances Neil Russell of Douds, eight grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Arthur Dexlin and Mrs. W.C. Simpsson(er), and a brother, Wm. Daniels, all of Ottumwa.

Funeral services were held from the Daniels home at Douds at 10:00 a.m. Friday, Nov. 25, and at 2:30 p.m. at the William Daniels home at Ottumwa, with Rev. M.D. Wyatt of Douds officiating. Interment was made in Ottumwa cemetery.
