FORMER OTTUMWA MAN DIES IN WEST

THOMAS DOWNEY, JR., SUCCUMGED IN MILES CITY, MONT, - BODY ENROUTE HERE

Thomas Downey, Jr., aged 32, a native of Wapello county, died yesterday in Miles City, Mont. The remains are enroute to this city. The body is expected tomorrow. It will be taken to the undertaking parlors of R.F. Moroney and later removed to the home of Mr. Downey, Sr., 606 East Finley avenue. The funeral arrangements will be announced later. The details of the death of Mr. Downey were not given in the telegraphic information sent to Ottumwa relatives. The body will be in charge of August B. Kneight, a member of Miles City council No. 1612, Knights of Columbus, with which Mr. Downey was affiliated.

Thomas Downey was born three miles northwest of Batavia thirty-two years ago. He received his early education in the country schools, and later attended the Sacred Heart Catholic school in this city. He was a farmer until ten years ago, when he went to Eldon and secured employment as a brakeman on the Rock Island. A year ago he went to Miles City and was a conductor on the Milwaukee road when death came. He was a Woodman and also a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen. Mr. Downey leaves his parents, and the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. J.D. O'Brien, Mrs. Charles Swanson and Misses Elizabeth Downey and Minnie Downey and John Downey of Ottumwa, Henry Downey of Sterling, Colo., Michael Downey of St. Marys, Iowa and Frank Downey of Batavia.
