Obituary of L.K. Doud

In the death of Lewis K. Doud, Van Buren county lost another of its old residents. He had lived on a farm near Douds, Iowa, all his life and was making his home with his brother, Seymour M. Douds(err), from whom he had never been separated until the time of his death.

He was born at Douds, Iowa, October 17, 1851, and died April 11, 1919, aged 67 years, 5 months and 24 days. He was a member of Celestial Lodge No. 413 of the Masonic order of Douds, being the first one to be initiated into this lodge and was also a charter member of Twin City Chapter No. 258, Order of Eastern Star, of Douds, Iowa. Mr. Doud was a good man, loved and respected by those who knew him. He never married, which accounts for his having made his home with his married brother. In February, 1918 occurred the death of his brother Thomas Doud, whose widow is at present seriously sick and unable to be at the funeral. He is survived by one brother Seymour, 6 nephews and 6 nieces. Besides these he leaves many other relatives and friends who mourn his death.

Funeral services were held at the Douds church Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, April 13, 1919, conducted by Chas. L. Ellis, pastor of the M.E. church. The remains were taken to the Mt. Moriah cemetery for interment, the Masonic order having charge of the services at that place.
