WILLIAM H. HARRYMAN

William Harvey Harryman son of Francis Asbury and Charlotte Oney Harryman, was born in Mooresville, Indiana, Dec. 17, 1838, and passed to his reward May 18, 1929 at the age of 90 years, 5 months and 1 day. He moved to Iowa Territory with his parents in 1845 and settled on Vernon Prairie near Bonaparte, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. October 14, 1861, he answered his country's call and enlisted at Keosauqua, and was mustered into the United States service at Keokuk, Ia., March 14, 1862 as private Co., E, 15th Regiment Iowa Volunteer Infantry and served during the war as member of Crocker's Iowa Brigade.

He fought in the battles of Shiloh Church, Corinth, Savannah and Rome Georgia, Seige of Vicksburg and took part in Sherman's March to the sea. He was honorably discharged August 5, 1865, and returned home. He was united in marriage with Martha E. Slater, January 10, 1867 and they moved to their home near Douds where they resided 47 years. To this union were born five children: Francis, Wade, Seth of Douds, Waldo of Ottumwa and Mrs. Floy Rodgers of Troy, Ia. His wife preceded him in death, March 30, 1912.

Early in life he was converted and became a member of the Methodist church and was a willing worker in the Sunday school and church acting as Supt. of the Sunday school for many years in his community.

December 5, 1912 he was united in marriage with Mrs. Josephine Cretcher at Bloomfield, Ia., who preceded him in death November 24, 1927. Since then he has been cared for by his children and for the past 9 months he has made his home with his son Wade where he passed away. He leaves 4 sons, 1 daughter, 1 sister, Geneta Hanbeck of Bonaparte, 20 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at the Leando M.E. church, Sunday morning at 11 o'clock in charge of Rev. William Heger. Interment in Leando cemetery.
