Death of Mrs. Carl Mort.
Last Saturday afternoon sorrow entered every home in Douds and in the locality round about, when word came from Ottumwa that Mrs. Carl Mort had suddenly passed away at the hospital in that city about noon that day. She left her home in Douds that morning in good spirits, intending to return the same evening, her husband to go after her in a car. She had been troubled with symptoms of Brights disease and went to Ottumwa for examination and soon after reaching the hospital her condition suddenly became critical, a babe was born but in a few moments both the spirit of the mother and the child had flown to the other world.
The mother's maiden name was Myrtis Swiers, only child of Joseph Swiers, who is now left alone, his wife having died several years ago. Mrs. Mort's age was about 38. She was married to her now bereaved husband, Carl Mort, Rock Island Agent at Douds, three or four years ago. Everybody loved Myrtis, and deep is the sorrow for the lonely father and husband in their affliction.
Funeral services, in charge of Rev. Ellis, were held at the M.E. church at Douds at 2 p.m. Tuesday, from whence the bodies of Mrs. Mort and her babe, in the same casket, were taken to the Ream cemetery west of Pittsburg and buried at the side of the morher(sp) and grandmother whose spirit, in the realms above, had welcomed the spirits of her child and grandchild.
