Ethel Isabelle Wiley

Ethel Isabelle Wiley, 89, of Keosauqua, died at 3:10 p.m. Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.

She had donated her body to the University of Iowa Medical School. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua with the Rev. Harold Harryman officiating. Burials of cremains will be in Pittsburg Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be left at the funeral home.

Mrs. Wiley was born May 24, 1911, in Cantril, the daughter of Albert H. and Iona Shipley Thomas. She married Kenneth Wiley Aug. 25, 1950. He died Jan. 26, 1995.

She graduated from Cantril High School in 1929, attended Bloomfield Junior College, Iowa State Teachers College and graduated with a bachelor's degree from Parsons College in Fairfield in 1963. She taught 40 years in Van Buren County schools, including several rural schools, and retired from Van Buren in 1973. Much of her college work she took intermittently with teaching.

She was a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church and had been active in the Keosauqua Senior Citizens group.

Survivors include five stepdaughters, Cleva Higgins in Texas, Helen Stafford, Phyllis Fox, Sharon Quintana and Shirley Hernandez, all of California; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Lona Stuart.
