LaVerne A. Phillips

KEOSAUQUA - LaVerne A. Phillips, 81, of Keosauqua, died at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 1996, at Van Buren Good Samaritan Center.

The service will at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Bill Shewmaker officiating. Burial will be in Winchester Cemetery. Visitation is open at the funeral home, with the family present from 7 to 8 tonight. Memorials to the Alzheimer's Unit of Van Buren Good Samaritan Center may be left at the funeral home.

Phillips was born July 8, 1914, north of Stockport in Jefferson County, the son of Ira and Elma Fry Phillips. On Jan. 12, 1936, he married Jessie Pearl Graham in Des Moines.

They farmed in the Winchester community between Birmingham and Stockport until retiring to Keosauqua in 1993. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of Haney-Brannan Post, American Legion, in Birmingham.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Robert of Boone, Daniel of Keosauqua; two daughters, Karen Workman of Keosauqua, Mildred Gerling of New Martinsville, W.Va.; eight grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild. A brother, Gerald, and a sister, Agnes Northway, preceded him in death.
