May 24, 1982Mrs. Spees dies at 90
SELMA - Olive F. Spees, 90, of Selma, died at 2:30 a.m. today at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds with the Rev. Gerald Caughron officiating. Burial will be in Iowaville Cemetery near Selma.
The daughter of Allen and Olive Davis Layman. Mrs. Spees was born Aug. 8, 1891 at Wa Keeney, Kan. On Nov. 29, 1917 she married Thomas Spees at her parents' home near Libertyville. They farmed in the Birmingham and Selma communities. In 1946 they moved to Selma to operate the telephone switchboard. He died in 1951 and she continued to operate the telephone office until retiring in 1958.
Surviving are two sons, Robert of St. Louis, Mo., Richard of Selma; two daughters, Roberta Abernathy of Eldon, Ruth Marie Findlay of Moses Lake, Wash., and a sister, Ruth Cockrell of Burlington.
Mrs. Spees was a member of the former Mt. Zion Methodist Church near Libertyville.
