Ralph E. Stoops

Realtor Ralph E. Stoops, 74, of 500 Highland Ave., died at 1 p.m. Monday at the Jefferson County Hospital following a massive heart attack.

Services will be Thursday at 9 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Clair Odell officiating. Burial will be in Pittsburg Cemetery in Pittsburg.

Masonic rites will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Raymond Funeral Home. Family visitation will be from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Shrine's Crippled Childrens Fund or to the Heart Fund and may be left at the Raymond Funeral Home.

Stoops was born June 13, 1908 near Keosauqua, the son of Roy and Addie Craig Stoops. He was raised in the Van Buren County community of Pittsburg and graduated from Douds High School.

He married Esther E. Ruby Nov. 30, 1935 in Kansas City, Mo. They farmed until moving to Fairfield in 1962. He was president of Stoops Real Estate, Inc., 60 W. Burlington Ave., at the time of his death.

Stoops was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge, Consistory, Kaaba Shrine and Elks. He had served as a board member of both the Iowa and the National Board of the Realtors Association.

Two daughters, Geri Coughlin, Miami, Fla., and Nancy Stoops, Springfield, Ill. survive along with Stoop's wife. He was preceded in death by one brother.
