H. Johnson, Stockport, dies

STOCKPORT - Harold H. Johnson, 81, well-known Stockport resident, died Friday evening at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua.

Born Sept. 27, 1900 in Glasgow, he was the son of Oscar G. and Jennie Howell Johnson. He married Alice Munson in 1922 and the couple would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at the end of August.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters: Gloria Reed of Nebraska and Marilyn Klise of Stockport; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, John.

A retired farmer, Johnson was employed by the Department of Agriculture for 30 years and had a great interest in soil conservation. He was a member of the Stockport United Methodist Church, Stockport Masonic Lodge, Lions Club, Izaac Walton League and the Van Buren County Historical Society.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Stockport United Methodist Church with the Rev. David R. Kennedy officiating. Interment with Masonic rites by Stockport Workman Lodge No. 634 will be in Spencer cemetery. A memorial to the Stockport Public Library and Stockport Historical Society has been established. The family will meet with friends from 7-8 p.m. Sunday at Burch Funeral Home in Birmingham.
