Died at Indianola, Iowa, Oct. 18, 1890, Rev. John D. Walker, aged 81 years, 7 months and 17 days. Deceased was born in St. Mary's county, Maryland, March 1, 1809. In early life he moved to Ohio, where he married Miss Cynthia A. Corwin. They came to Iowa in 1843, and settled in Village township, Van Buren county, two miles east of Selma. Ten children were born to them, two sons and eight daughters. After living in Van Buren county for several years they moved to Jefferson county, living in Libertyville for some time, and subsequently on a farm in Des Moines township, same county, where he lived until the death of his wife, after which he sold his farm and went to Chariton, Iowa, where he made his home with his children.

In early life Mr. Walker united with the Methodist Episcopal church and remained faithful until the end. For about fifty years he had been a local preacher and had been instrumental in doing great good. He came to his grave in a full age as a shock of corn cometh in its season. Three daughters, two sisters and one brother, with other relatives, remain to mourn their loss. Mrs. Nelson Stokesand Mrs. J. Shelby of Village township, are sisters of Mr. Walker.

He died at Indianola, while visiting Iowa, at the home of his daughter-in-law. His remains were brought to Selma and interred in the Mt. Moriah cemetery, Oct. 21, Rev. G.W. Barber conducting the service. A large concourse of relatives and friends met to pay their tribute of respect to his memory.
