Malissa Barber 1838-1901

Malissa A. Bell was born in Washington C., Ohio, in June, 1838. At an early age she moved to Missouri, thence to Keosauqua, Iowa. On July 6th at the home of Rev. C. W. Shepherd, she was united in marriage to Alonzo A. Barber, both uniting with the M.E. church. In Aug., 1862, they located in Bentonsport, becoming useful and respected citizens. The deceased received an injury in 1873 which affected her spine and hence her mind. From this injury she died March 22, 1901. The bodies of the wife and mother, that of the only child Charles J. who died in infancy and the husband who died Oct. 2, 1899, now repose in the Bentonsport cemetery. The funeral took place from the Bentonsport M.E. church conducted by the pastor W. R. Rolingson.
